Tonight we set our clocks back.
Tomorrow morning, I drink copious amounts of coffee.
And then, I preach.
John 8:12 - Jesus declares that He is the light of the world. This isn't a lectionary text, but a Lenten selction from Dr. Slemmons insightful, yet edgy, year D.
This discourse of Jesus took place during the annual Feast of Tabernacles when four enormous lampstands would be lit - bright enough to light up all of Jerusalem. And what did they make the wicks from? Well, priestly undergarments, of course! They would save their worn breeches and girdles (yes, you read that right - their used undergarments) and they would be crafted into the wicks for the lampstands.
Sometimes, I absolutely love theology.
